This Wednesday came with a little AI drama. 👀

A few days ago, Anthropic solved a 350-year-old math problem and got plenty of appreciation for it. Now OpenAI has jumped into the race with a 90-year-old math problem of its own.

But the story doesn’t end here.

Someone is now accusing OpenAI of copying their unpublished math research. 😬

Here's what else happened in AI while you were busy.

  • Claude vs OpenAI in the race to solve math problems

  • OpenAI’s math breakthrough comes with a twist

  • Meta introduces Muse, its personal AI agent

  • ChatGPT Images 2.5 just dropped

  • OpenAI introduces 16 plugins for small businesses

"Every company has messy data, and even the best of AI companies are not fully satisfied with their data. If you have data, it is probably a good idea to get an AI team to have a look at it and give feedback. This can develop into a positive feedback loop for both the IT and AI teams in any company."

🆕 AI’s Latest Drops

Meta is stepping further into the AI agent game with Muse, a personal agent designed to handle tasks on your behalf. Instead of just giving you answers, Muse is built to take action across different apps and services.

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Images 2.5, bringing faster image generation, better editing, and stronger consistency across multiple edits. It also adds Sketch, which turns rough drawings into more polished images.

OpenAI is giving small business owners more ways to hand off everyday work. The new lineup includes 16 plugins designed to help with tasks that usually eat up time, so owners can focus more on running the business.

OpenAI is bringing GPT-6 users together in San Francisco on September 16. The event will focus on the model, what people want to build next, and, apparently, some time to just hang out. Applications are open until September 10.

The IPO market ran a stress test

The 2026 pipeline looks very different from years past.

Here’s what’s attached to some of the companies expected to headline the calendar:
- ~$1.5 trillion target valuation.
- $20+ billion in annual revenue.
- 55% year-over-year revenue growth.
- $1.4+ billion in pre-tax profit.
- 240+ million monthly active users.
- Eight consecutive years of profitability.

Unlike many IPOs, those aren’t projections ten years out - they’re current figures tied to a select set of private companies preparing for public markets.

Our analysts break down seven of the most closely watched IPO prospects - including revenue, valuation range, and operating profile - in:

Last week, Claude made headlines by turning Fermat’s Last Theorem into a 13-million-line computer-checked proof. Now OpenAI has entered the fight with something even bigger.

OpenAI says an internal model, working with around 10,000 AI agents, produced a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, a maths problem that has remained unsolved for roughly 90 years. The system arrived at the solution after about 88 hours, with GPT-6 Astra later helping formalize and verify the proof.

It’s one of those moments where the AI math race suddenly feels very real. The proof still needs serious scrutiny from mathematicians, but OpenAI has put a 90-year-old problem on the table and says its AI found the answer.

Scroll Break

OpenAI’s big math announcement now comes with a controversy. NYU mathematician Tristan Buckmaster and Levent Alpöge, a mathematician at Anthropic, had been working on the same Navier-Stokes problem and developed a research strategy that had not yet been published.

Buckmaster now alleges that OpenAI used their unpublished strategy in its own attempt. OpenAI disputes the accusation and says its work was developed independently.

So now the same math problem sits at the center of both an AI breakthrough and a serious dispute over where the idea came from.
